My dear daughter,
Let me begin my letter with a quote from Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now Saint Teresa: “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”
As with the case with most, if not all of us, there are things we plan to do, maybe it is a skill we want to acquire. For instance, I have always wished to improve my drawing and cartooning skills. I invested a good deal of money on different books and CDs on the subject, but the truth is that over the years, and I can tell you my darling the years have added up, I have not disciplined myself to get on with putting in the necessary time to improve my skills. That is why I am writing to you about this. Whatever it is you want to do with your life, begin today and stick with it till you obtain the desired results.
- Today is the day to start.
- Forget the past.
- Forget your age.
- Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
You need to back your desires to achieve anything with discipline. If the goal is important to you, you have to put in the necessary hard work to achieve it. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.
You have to work really hard to achieve those things that will make you feel fulfilled and happy in life. The things others can’t do for you. The things that challenge you to be better. These are the things that will define you. These are the things that make the difference between existing and living. You have to know the path you want to take in life, and then walk along that path. If you do this, you will not live a life of mediocrity but one of achievement, success and happiness.
Keeping your nose to the grindstone is not easy; the hard things are often the easiest things to avoid. You find it is easier to procrastinate and to make excuses. But to achieve your goals, you have to step out of your comfort zones and do the hard things that requires courage, drive and determination.
So for your own sake, start doing the hard things today!
I wish you the best of luck and the strength and spirit to stick to it till the desired result is achieved.
Love you always.
Dad
