My dear daughter,
There is nothing wrong with the desire to be famous. I think there is an innate desire in all of us to be known and recognised. This drive in some is so overwhelming that they go to any and all lengths to achieve their goal.
Most of us do not realise that FAME is not easy to handle or to live with. Fame impacts one’s life in so many was, and oftentimes not positively. Fame exposes one’s life to unnecessary scrutiny. The exposure and scrutiny are often invasive and a person’s privacy is seriously compromised. In a bid to cope with fame, some have been known to recourse to drug and alcohol abuse, and the stress of fame can lead to mental issues such depression.
With fame comes image issues – looks, weight, dressing, public image, everything about you is open season for discussion and dissection, which can make you not sure of who you really are or want to be. You now doubt yourself and your capabilities. Also, when one is famous, the person’s security becomes an issue.
As they say, there really is no free launch. So if you seek for fame, be clear about what you are getting yourself into and prepare yourself mentally and emotionally to deal with it. Have people who you trust and who genuinely care for you around so that you are kept grounded when famous.
However, my dear, it is not all negative being famous, because fame has its advantages too. If you are famous, you can use your fame to advance good causes. People pay attention to what famous people have to say. Lending your voice to issues that affect the ordinary person can sometimes be of help.
So my dear, in your bid to be known, do take steps to avoid being notorious.
Love you always.
Dad
