In this Sunday’s article, I want us to focus on Ephesians 6:10-18. Here St. Paul tells us that we should be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. He further urges us to put on the whole armour of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
The reason we need to put on God’s amour is so that we can withstand the devil and his wiles. We also need God’s amour because we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
St Paul goes on to tell us what God’s amour is made of:
- Having your loins girt about with truth. We must be individuals who stand with the truth. Men and women of high integrity.
- Having on the breastplate of righteousness. We must be righteous as our heavenly father is righteous. We must be persons of good works and deeds.
- Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. God’s words are peace. God’s gift is peace. Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9.
- Taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Yes, the shield of faith protects you from the doubts and fears, which assault you on life’s journey.
- Taking the helmet of salvation. This salvation which our Lord Jesus Christ won for us will keep our mind stayed on God as we journey through life, facing its many challenges, trials and tribulations but always focused on Christ and our home in heaven.
- And the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
- Praying always, with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24
So the armour of God consists of TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, FAITH, SALVATION, THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYERS.
So put on the whole armour of God that you may go through life more than a conqueror – No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37.
