We are aware that God works through humans to provide our needs. It is for this reason that we feel hurt and let down when someone we depend on does not meet our expectations.
• Parents oftentimes feel that their children let them down, and vice versa children also feel their parents let them down.
• One feels confused and let down when a spouse whom they love and depended upon leaves them.
• We can feel desperate when an employer lets go of staff in difficult economic times.
• A close friend or associate who has promised financial assistance or other assistance in a desperate situation fails us.
These are some of the situations that have the potential of making someone feel helpless, hopeless, overwhelmed or anxious.
We are so caught up by the conviction that God works through people to attend to our needs, we tend to forget that it is God we should depend on to sort out our problems, and not this or that person we had in mind. We really need to reboot our thought processes to understand that it is God who we should look up to for the solution to our challenges and he in his wisdom will work through whomsoever he so wishes, and this may not necessarily correspond to where we are looking to for the solution.
The psalmist clearly reminds us in Psalm 121 where we should focus our attention for help: “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
Life is so complex and challenging, and there are many of life’s events which confront us that we instinctively know that only God can help. This should not cause us anxiety because God is omnipotent; God is powerful; God is our help.
So it is very important for us to know that we should look up to God to resolve all situations for us, and he will choose the people who will help us work out our problems and challenges. God has the will, the way and the means to solve all our problems. Whatever our needs – be they financial, educational, emotional, health, or any need whatsoever, God knows all about it, and he will take care of it because he cares for us.
He that keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. This God is the God that keeps us and never slacks off, not even for a moment. He is hands-on. God is interested and concerned. God cares, and God will take care of us.
God’s care comforts, heals, and delivers. This is His loving care. God’s care does not take advantage of us. All he demands of us is to turn to him in faith and belief, and ask that we may receive. We should always turn our eyes towards the hills from which all our help comes. We should look to God to take control of our lives. And he will definitely take control because he cares for us.
