The International Women’s Day 2018 was marked yesterday March 8. How many of us men took note that the world was marking International Women’s Day? How many of us understand why International Women’s Day is marked annually?
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity, and has been observed since the early 1900s.
My dear fellow, please answer the question beneath honestly.
Why are you not helping to a considerable degree with household chores? A woman is not a slave and if she works full-time like you, it only right that you do your fair share of house chores.
Are you an insensitive male or just a chauvinist who thinks that any housework is for the woman to handle all alone? Is it right to put up your feet drinking beer while your companion works herself to the bones?
Do you suppose that spending time with the boys while your other half is not relaxed is the best for a companionship that is considerate and loving?
Why do you go on sleeping unconcerned when a child is running a temperature at night, leaving mum to do all the fussing and caring?
Is it right to bring up our children in a manner that gives us men the sense that things that have to do with the home should be left to women? Should we not teach our children the lesson that housework does not necessarily fall on the shoulders of the girl child but is also for boys as well?
As we strive for gender equality, let us as men key in and do the needful to ensure the dignity and status of womanhood.
