Water is of major importance to humans. The body is made up of 60% of water. This is more reasons why it is good to drink water. After all what could be more refreshing than a glass of water? Not even a cup of coffee or your favourite fruit drink can be substituted with water. This is because water does amazing things to the body. When we deprive ourselves of water , we are directly causing damages to the body system. Here are signs that your water intake is low so you need to drink more:
1.Dry mouth
It is normal to reach for liquid whenever we feel a sticky, nasty feeling or thirst in our mouth. But sugary drinks offer temporary solutions to dry mouth. When we drink water, the mouth is moist with saliva and the mucus membranes in the mouth and throat are lubricated.
2. Dry skin
The skin is the largest body organ, it needs to stay hydrated to stay healthy. Dry skin is a clear sign of full dehydration and this can result to larger problems. Lack of water also means you sweat hardly. By sweating, the body washes away excess dirt and oil accumulated throughout the day. To starve breakouts, drink more water.
3. Dry eyes
Not drinking enough water, does not only affect the mouth and throat but the eyes as well. Lack of water intake leads to dry, bloodshot eyes. Your eye tear ducts would dry up without enough water in your body.
4. Joint pain
The body’s cartilage and spinal discs are made up of about 80% water. To keep the bones from grinding against each other with movement, water should be taken regularly. That way you can partake in activities such as running, jumping and others without feeling awkward.
5. Decrease in muscles mass
The body muscles are comprised mostly of water. So less water in the body means less muscle mass. Drink water before, during, and after a workout to keep you hydrated and comfortable. This also brings water to the right places in your body, and decreases the chance of developing inflammation and soreness related to exercise and weightlifting.
6. Constant fatigue
When the body is dehydrated, it draws from the blood. A lack of properly hydrated blood leads to a lack of oxygen being brought throughout the body. More so, a lack of oxygen leads to sleepiness and serious fatigue.
7. Hunger pangs
When you are dehydrated, your body resorts to need for food. That is why throughout the day, and overnight, you wake up craving that midnight snack. Eating food creates more work for your body while drinking water purifies your organs, Drinking water also supplies the body with the fuel it needs to build up.
8. Digestive problems
Dehydration, causes the amount and strength of mucus to stomach lessen. This allows the stomach acid to do some major damages to your inside resulting to heartburn and indigestion.
9. Constipation
Staying hydrated lubricates the digestive system. When the body is dehydrated, the colon uses up the water that would have been used by the intestines in the next step of the digestive process. Lack of lubricants in the intestine results to constipation.
10. Premature aging
As we grow older, the amount of water our bodies retain naturally decreases. This implies we need to increase water intake. Premature aging is visible outside but the damage it does to our inside is more grave. It is important to continue to drink water throughout your lifetime to decrease the risk of your body running down.
11. Reduced urination
Medical experts suggest you should make it to the restroom 4-7 times a day. If not then, you are not drinking enough water. Your urine should be a light yellow or clear color. If it is a darker yellow, your body is telling you it is dehydrated. In more extreme cases, dehydration can lead to urinary tract infections in which case needs medical attention.
