About 12,000 dead fish including mullet, croaker, and catfish washed up on the shore of Quintana Beach in Texas on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The fishes were found along a stretch of beach about two miles long.
Though under investigation, the cause of the fish kill is not yet known. Some insinuate the possible causes of the dead fish may be a result of a red tide algae bloom, a chemical spill, or a power outage that disrupted the water supply.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has advised people to avoid contact with the dead fish due to contamination. The department is on the move to clean up the fish and prevent further water pollution.
The dead fish has a negative effect on the fishing and tourism industry. Now, many businesses that rely on fishing for their livelihood have been forced to close. T
