It is never out of place to pamper your skin. Indulge yourself in homemade facemasks and your skin will thank you. Not sure where to start? Or if you have the right ingredients? No worries.
These easy-to-follow recipes are made with (mostly) ingredients from your kitchen. So it is goodbye to acne and blackheads to dull and dry skin.
1. Avocado and honey facemask
Raw honey is great for skin that struggles with excess sebum because it has antibacterial properties. It is also a powerful antioxidant that contains glycolic acid so it’s a natural exfoliator but much gentler on the skin than grainy scrubs.
You need:
- Half a medium avocado, mashed
- A tablespoon of honey
- Cooled green tea (optional)
Step 1/ Combine the mashed flesh of half a medium-sized organic avocado with 1 tablespoon of honey.
Step 2/ Massage the mask mixture into the face and neck and leave on for 15-20 minutes
Step 3/ Gently rinse off with warm water then, if you wish, dab your skin with cool Green Tea
2. Aloe, Yoghurt and Orange facemask
Aloe vera gel is an age-old remedy for the skin, particularly in keeping skin moisturised and helping to even out skin tone. It’s packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to reduce inflammation and boost the production of collagen.
You need:
- 1 teaspoon plain natural yoghurt
- 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel
- Juice of 1/4 slice of an orange
- Zest of one orange
Step 1/ In a bowl place 1 teaspoon of plain natural yoghurt, 1 teaspoon of aloe, the juice from ¼ slice of orange and orange zest.
Step 2/ Gently mix the ingredients together and apply all over the face using your fingers or a spatula. Make sure you avoid the eye area.
Step 3/ Leave the mask to sit for at least five and up to 20 minutes, before rinsing off.
3. Turmeric and Honey facemask
Turmeric has proven anti-inflammatory properties necessary for combatting acne. Rich in antioxidants, turmeric help to keep free radicals away from the skin and damaging healthy cells. This can also help to prevent hyperpigmentation, scars whilst evening out skin tones.
You need:
- Half a teaspoon turmeric
- Tablespoon of honey
Step 1/ In a bowl mix half a teaspoon of turmeric with a tablespoon of honey. Manuka is best, but any type will do
Step 2/ Layer it evenly over your clean, dry skin and leave on for between 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with a warm face cloth
