Pregnancy, a delicate process of birthing another life, requires a lot of sacrifice and care. To ensure safe and smooth delivery, the expectant mother should do adopt a lifestyle that suits her unborn baby. These include:
- Sleeping
Most times pregnancy comes with sleeping problems as you wrestle on the bed to get the most comfortable position. This happens because the body is undergoing changes. The best sleeping position for a pregnant woman is to sleep on the side(SOS) position. Health experts advise sleeping on the left side because it increases the amount of blood and nutrients circulation to the placenta and baby. The SOS position helps ease back pain, shortness of breath and heartburn.
- Eat good food
During pregnancy, it is good to take more dairy products because they are rich in protein and calcium. Vegetables e.g pumpkin leaf is an excellent source of beta-carotene and a rich antioxidant, which controls cholesterol level, prevents anaemia and lowers blood pressure. Also unripe plantain contains Vitamin A and C which relieves the pregnant woman from vomiting. It works well for eye and skin health.
- Exercise
The role of exercise cannot be ruled out from a pregnant woman’s routine. With pregnancy comes weight gain, but a pregnant who has been exercising would find it easy to get back into shape. Some exercises to engaging in include taking the staircase instead of lifts, doing house chores, walking a close distance instead of driving, swimming and of course dancing to your favourite music.
