Coconut oil, also known as copra oil, is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm. It continues to be in high demand because of its numerous uses and purposes ranging for health benefits to hair care to beauty.
As a hair product, coconut oil helps the hair grow thicker, longer and faster. The vitamins and essential fatty acids naturally found in coconut oil nourishes the scalp and helps to remove sebum build-up from hair follicles.
There are many fake coconut oil in the market. So how can you tell genuine coconut oil from fake? The following tips would help:
- Any the coconut oil that is branded should have the words ‘extra virgin oil’ written on it. This means as an extra virgin oi,l it was simply manufactured my cold press method. This is the best way to manufacture any oil because it allows the oil to retain all the minerals and vitamins that were originally in the seed or from its source.
- If the coconut oil is something you can taste, try doing so. Pure coconut oil must have a pure coconut taste. If it has an irritating taste/smell or you cannot even taste the coconut then it is a fake coconut oil.
- The coconut oil must have a clean clear look. It should not even have a blurry look. This means it must not have tiny particles moving inside the oil. If the oil is yellowish in colour, it must be transparent. If it is transparent, it should be clear enough to see the other side of the container from it. If the coconut oil is not transparent and clear, it implies it has been adulterated or typically fake.
