Our Woman Crush Wednesday, Busola Bakinson, has carved for herself an important niche in the Nigerian legal world. Busola is among the foremost Intellectual Property (IP) lawyers in the country – providing individuals and corporations with the best legal advice to protect the fruits of their talents and hard work.
Busola has over 10 years of experience in IP, with her expertise covering a broad range of topics including copyright matters, patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. She is also known for her focus on IP prosecution and enforcement in various African countries – a much-needed service given that this has been a legal stumble for many on the continent.
Busola is the Team Lead of the IP department of the law firm of Olaniwun Ajayi LP. Here she works with clients to evaluate ownership of IP assets, as well as determine their quality and quantity. Before this, she spent a decade at Jackson, Etti & Edu, a top commercial law firm, where she garnered experience in the field as she sought tailor-made solutions for her clients to achieve optimum results.
Beyond the firm, Busola is the Co-Chair of the Government Advisory Council (Africa) and a member of the Trademark Office Practice Committee at the International Trademark Association (INTA). She facilitated the meeting between Nigeria’s Speaker of the House of Representatives and INTA to form a caucus around IP issues. She shares her knowledge through IP training for lawyers, as well as engagement with the next generation. At the recently concluded Pride Lagos Creative Enterprise Week, she introduced young creatives to the world of IP and how this knowledge can help them strengthen their creative businesses.
Busola has been consistently ranked (2019, 2020, 2021) a rising star by Managing Intellectual Property, one of the world’s foremost IP rankings. We at Pride Magazine Nigeria wholeheartedly agree with the accolade – that’s why she’s our woman crush.
