Acne is a common skin condition we battle with. It is a result of skin pores being clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Each pore is connected to the sebaceous gland which produces an oily substance called sebum. Extra sebum plugs up pores that harbours bacteria growth. The common symptoms of acne include pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. It is advisable to seek medical help for the treatment of acne. However, these are proven natural remedies for acne treatment:
1.Honey and Cinnamon Mask
Honey and cinnamon are sources of good antioxidants with antibacterial properties used to prevent acne. Mix 2 tablespoons honey and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together into a paste. After cleansing, apply the mask to one’s face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse the mask off completely and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
2.Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is known for its ability to fight bacteria and reduce skin inflammation. Studies show that applying tea tree oil to the skin reduces acne. Mix 1 part tea tree oil with 9 parts water, dip a piece of the cotton swab and apply on the affected areas. Repeat this process 1-2 times daily. Apply moisturiser if you desire.
3. Green Tea
Drinking green tea is healthy. It is a great source of antioxidants that relieves acne. Studies show that applying 2-3% of green tea extract on the skin reduces sebum production and pimples. Boil green tea for 3-4 minutes then allow to cool. Using a cotton ball, apply the green tea to the skin or pour it into a spray bottle to spritz on. Allow to dry, then rinse with water and pat dry. The remaining tea leaves can be added to honey to make a mask.
4. Aloe vera
Aloe vera gel is usually added to lotions, creams and soaps. It is usually used for treating bruises, rashes and other skin conditions. Scrape the aloe vera gel and apply directly to your skin as a moisturiser. Repeat 1-2 times daily for best results.
