The marriage institution should be kept holy and respected. Marriage itself is a decision that people should carefully analyse, introspect and think about. Just because divorce is on the rise, especially among celebrities does not mean people should not get married. The high rate of divorce is a result of people getting married for the wrong reasons. Let’s take a look at some:
1. Societal pressure
Don’t feel the urge to get married because everybody around you is getting married. Don’t fall into to depression thinking you are the problem since everybody around you is engaged but you aren’t. Society can pressurise you to get married but be brave to marry for the right reasons.
2. Family pressure
Asides from society, family pressure is another big reason why people get married to someone or the other. Your family members may be constantly on your neck to get married since you have come off. The urge to see you settled down can be too hard to ignore at times. However, you must not be pressurised to make life decisions like whom to spend the rest of your life with.
3. Marriage will fix your problems
If you are not happy before marriage, you won’t be happy married. Never go with the assumption that marriage will fix all your problems and make you happy. In fact, it will amplify what you already are. Go into marriage as a whole and happy person and it will work for you.
4. Ultimatum
When your partner is too eager to get married and gives you an ultimatum that if you do not agree to the marriage, they will leave you, it can be a big red flag. You should never feel pressurised to marry, especially by your partner. Only agree to it when you are mentally, financially and emotionally ready.
5. You are lonely
Marrying someone so that you will never be lonely is not a good reason to get married. Being alone can be bad but committing yourself to someone you don’t know or aren’t sure of, is worse. Try to be happy by yourself, before committing to making your partner happy.
