Let’s face it job searching can be depressing. Knowing that you have nothing doing to keep body and soul is not a good feeling. It convinces you that you have no skills, desirable talents or notable contributions to make the world. Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders, with about 322 million people are suffering from it. So how can one deal with depression while job searching? The following 6 tips would be helpful:
1.Stay motivated
At the onset, job searching may ease depressive symptoms. As time goes on and the situation remains unchanged, you may give up in all efforts. The longer it takes to get hired, the more likely you feel defeated. Don’t let your energy and zest for life dwindle. Keep the fire burning and stay positive expecting the best.
2. Build a support system
Don’t do life alone. In a situation you are out of jobs or unemployed, you should draw strength from friends and family. They would make you feel you are not alone. When you get the rejections or failed job offers, you can talk with a trusted friend or family member. Remember a problem shared is half solved. They can give your referrals and disclose opportunities when they come up.
3. Keep busy
An idle man is the devil’s workshop. Depression creeps in when you are stuck in your head and hopeless. Instead of wallowing in what could have be, think of what can be. This is a great period to volunteer, take more courses and upgrade your C.V. Research has found that participating in some kinds of regular volunteer work can help to ease the symptoms of depression.
4. Create a schedule
You should not be job searching 24/7. Plan your time for different activities like volunteering, self care, recharging with friends and family. Job searching can be a full-time job but you don’t have to make it so. Work with a schedule that gives you ample time to do other things that make you happy.
5. Stay organised
Depression can affect how you apply for jobs. It can cause loss of memory and lack of motivation. To combat these, stay organised so that you don’t end up sending the wrong format and poor application for jobs.
6. Practise self-care
You owe it to yourself to take care of yourself. If you don’t no one will. Besides you can not work if you are not healthy. Being healthy means you are well both physically, emotionally and mentally. Be kind to yourself and occasionally pamper yourself.
