It’s no longer news that there has been a nationwide protest against the operations Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) in Nigeria. The masses and the victims of their unfair treatment have continued to registered their agitation, calling for the reformation and restructuring of the police force. What started as a local movement, has become a global phenomenon. International celebrities and the likes have also lend their voice to the #EndSARS cause.
Social media has gone haywire. Different information, videos and opinions on the matter keep bursting our timelines. In order to not get bombarded and overwhelmed with with the rage outpouring, it is okay to take a step backwards to regain ones peace and composure. As we know physical and mental health is important. It is only a healthy person that can live to do all they can. Here are few things to help you pull through and stay composed this period:
1. Drink water
Take lots of water. If you are an online or offline protester, you need to chill and drink water. Allow you body to stay hydrated. It would keep your body systems functioning well.
2. Eat well
Food is a necessity. Man must eat to survive. Don’t just eat anyhow. Ensure you are eating well and healthy.
3. It’s okay to log out of all social media
As mentioned, social media has been on fire. There are different perspectives and information. If you can’t process and handle all that it is giving you, it is okay to go off social media completely. This is for your mental health. Keep your sanity in check.
4. Pursue other hobbies
This is the time to be engaged in other hobbies. Learn a new skill or language. Play scrabbles, read a new genre of books, learn how to play a musical instrument. Paint or cook. Do something exciting that would serve as a good distraction.
5. Listen to soothing music and messages
Relax and enjoy your favourite playlist. Also, listen to encouraging messages that would allay your fears and build your faith.
6. Sleep well
This is not the time to watch news or any programmes till late in the night. Sleep and give your body rest to rejuvenate and process new information.
7. Do something kind for people
Think of how you can be a blessing to people around you. Be kind just for no particular reason.
