Though contouring and highlighting can be done without, they are important just as foundation during makeup. Many ladies struggle with contouring and highlighting because it is not easy sculpting the angles of the face. It requires skill and finesse. This goes beyond blending your foundation or applying lipstick or eyeliner. There are certain mistakes you need to avoid to get contouring and highlighting rigt. These include:
1.Choosing shades that are too dark
You should either choose to contour with a contouring palette or concealer palette. Just ensure that you choose a shade that one or two shades darker than your skin tone. If you do otherwise, your make up will look unnatural.
2.Over highlighting
While contouring your face, pay attention to highlighting too. Highlighting helps enhance the facial features. Highlighters may be a favourite product for many but if wrongly applied, the face can look messy.
3. You mismatch products
You may prefer some products over others but mismatching products give different results especially when it comes to contouring and highligting e.g. mixing a powder highlighter and a cream contour highlighter can give an unnatural look. To correct this, match products together like liquids with liquids, powders to powders and creams to creams for a blended flawless look.
4. You ignore your face shape
When you focus on the wrong features of your face, you would commit make up blunders. For heart-shaped faces, focus on the sides of your forehead, temples, cheekbones and chin tip. For round faces, focus on the sides of your forehead along your temples, below the cheekbones and under the jawlines. Oval faces should focus on the sides of the forehead and the area below the cheekbones from the ears to the middle of the cheeks.
5. Using the wrong makeup tools
You fingers would not blend your products well on your face. Instead use a makeup blender. Apply a small amount of contour and highlight products in the blender then draw a line on your cheekbones, jawlines and nose. After you can blend it out with the side of the blender.
6. You ignore blending
Many ladies forget to blend properly. This is important procedure during contouring. Be thoirough with blending and let it extend to your jawline.
7. Leaving other spots out
Sometimes you can focus on only one spot and leave others out. This would create an uneven and unnatural look. Focus on the all your facial features.
8.Leaving out setting spray
Your contouring and highlighting is incomplete without setting spray. If you don’t include this, the contour would smear, smudge and rub out shortly. Use a setting spray to set your makeup look so it lasts for as long as you want.
