My Son,
I wish that as you journey through life, you will maintain a joyful heart. In my own life’s journey, I have strived to maintain a joyful heart. I found that one big obstacle to being joyful is comparing one’s self to others:
• Look at that guy, he is more handsome than myself;
• He pulls all the good looking girls;
• Wow! Look at the fancy car he drives;
• He has a fantastic career and earns loads more money than me;
• My life will never look like that! etc. etc. etc.
It quite remarkable how we look at other people lives as if all was well with them, but look at our own lives and ourselves as though things were not well with us. We want what they have. This attitude keeps us miserable and not appreciative of who we are. We become discouraged and this takes the joy out of our life.
Comparison is the thief of joy
Comparing ourselves to others is a self-defeating behavior that hurts us.
My son, you are who you are. Embrace it: your strengths, your abilities, your talents, even your weaknesses and flaws. Be comfortable in your own skin and find that joy in your heart.
My son, may your heart always be joyful.
