I haven’t always been the Debonair Gent you know today. There was a time in my life when I didn’t look my best; my shoes were nothing to write home about and this had a negative impact on my entire outfit even though I was well dressed.
My dad took it upon himself not only to teach my elder brother and me, how to polish our shoes but the significance of doing so. Remembering his words, “Even the most expensive shoes, when not polished, could be mistaken for a pauper’s shoes.”
These words stuck with me. Because the world is a very judgmental place, people size you up by how you’re dressed and your look. Oftentimes, beginning from your shoes, you may be treated with admiration or with scorn. Suffice to say, that my dad knew this all along.
