My son,
Many a times in your life you will be faced with challenges, which seem impossible to surmount. When such occasions come up, as they are bound to, it is important for your physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing that you understand that you are to do all that is within your power to overcome the challenge; and having done that surrender the outcome to the author of the universe.
My son, it is important for your peace of mind and mental state that you have a conscious understanding of who you perceive the creator of the universe to be. You have heard me quote segments from Desiderata oftentimes to buttress a point. I will do so again now – “Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.” The reason for this advice is that you should get to know your God so that when things get too much for you to handle, you are able to surrender all to him, having done your human best in the situation.
Depression, anger and negative feelings often result when people hit that brick wall and literally run out of ideas about what to do in any given situation, or the next move to make, and they eventually end up throwing in the towel and giving up. The circumstances they are facing force them to remove themselves from actively seeking to overcome the challenge and doing the needful.
Surrender in the context of my advice is a conscious decision to rely on a higher power for a total and perfect solution having done your possible best with the ideas you have come up with and given the choices available at the given time.
What I am advising you to do is to not remove yourself from the outcome, but still continue to do what needs to be done. Trusting that the Creator who has answers to every problem or challenge is in charge and inspiring you on the right steps to take to surmount the challenge. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3: 5-6. Taking this approach, surrender then becomes a little bit deeper than giving up or letting a problem overwhelm you, but the realization that while you are not in control of the outcome, you will not despair – you have let go and let God.
