My Dear Daughter,
“You got to know
When to hold ’em
(When to hold ’em)
Know when to fold ’em
(When to fold ’em)
And know when to walk away
Know when to run” … part of the lyrics from Kenny Rogers song The Gambler
My darling, you do not have to react to everything that bothers you. In the same vein, you don’t have to expend energy trying to see how you can get back at those who hurt you. Walking away instead of getting even shows a great deal of maturity.
My dear, the energy it takes to react to every bad thing that happens to you drains you and stops you from seeing the other good things in life.
Yes my daughter, the secret to surviving many individual relationships, situations and challenges you may confront during the course of your life is: the ability to know when to hold on, know when to throw in the towel, and especially, know when to just walk away.
Love you always,
Dad
