My Dear Daughter,
“Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.” – Desiderata.
Your journey through life is a smorgasbord of experiences. When you were much younger these experiences were sometimes confusing or perhaps even perplexing and you couldn’t figure out why. Now that you are much older, your previous experiences begin to take on meaning and significance. You begin to connect the dots.
In youth, we are all prone to presume that we know it all. But as we grow older we realise this is false, – an indication of maturity. This, then, is the time to decide not to let your experiences overwhelm you, but, like the opening quote by Desiderata says, “Take kindly the counsel of the years.”
Life is full of good and evil, ups and downs… so you have to “Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.” Yes, you have to take the right steps to nurture your inner strength so that you can face and surmount whatever life throws at you.
My darling, may your life always be joyful irrespective of the challenges you may face as you journey through life.
Love you always,
Dad
