Diahann Carroll, the American singer and actress who was popularly known for her pioneering and history-making roles on Julia and Dynasty, has passed on at 84 after her battle with cancer.
The news of her death on Friday, October 4, was shared by her daughter, Suzanne Kay. Her daughter who told The Associated Press her mother died Friday in Los Angeles of cancer. expressed sadness over her mother’s death: “We are sad to say goodbye to a true icon, Carrol.”
Carroll was an Icon who earned a Tony Award for the musical ‘No Strings’ and an Academy Award nomination for ‘Claudine’ during her long career.
She was also the first black woman to star in her TV series, with her debut, Julia where she played Julia Baker, a nurse whose husband had been killed in Vietnam in the groundbreaking situation comedy that aired from 1968 to 1971.
