All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has condemned the circumstances surrounding the death of the AAU student, and also the unwarranted N25, 000 reparation fee leveled on over 17,000 students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko for damaging the institution property during a protest last month, over the killing of a student of the institution.
“The Party described the fee as outrageous and a wicked plot to exploiting the poor masses and the unpaid workers in the state. Addressing journalists in Akure, the State capital, the State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya and the Director of publicity of the party, Steve Otaloro jointly said, the decision of the school management that each student should pay a whooping sum N25, 000.00, has shown that Governor Mimiko did not consider the financial crisis and hardship the parents of these students are passing through despite the fact that the State government is owing them salaries running to five months.
The party also condoled with the family, friends, the Students Union Government (SUG) of AAU, and the entire Ondo State students body over the unfortunate death of Afolabi Ojo.
Adesanya said, the APC also condemned the destructive act of the students; saying proper investigations must be done to fish out the perpetrators of such unholy act.
“While blaming the students for taken the laws into their hands, he said PDP government, through the institution has also failed to provide basic amenities and adequate health facilities for students in the institution.
“The APC spokesperson accused the institution management for being the sole cause of the death of the student which sparked the protest action by the students.
He said, “government must live up to its responsibility of providing basic amenities, adequate health facilities and conducive environment for learning to all students in tertiary, secondary and primary schools in the state.
Is it not laughable that the ‘caring heart Governor’ who is busy building ‘mega schools’ could not provide the tertiary institutions in the state with adequate medical facilities?”
“It is disheartening that, the Governor Mimiko and his agents in the University are head-bent on taxing the students’ poor parents despite the unfortunate incident that killed one of their children”.
The Party warned that, it would not allow the Governor to use the masses’ resources to make up for his financial recklessness and corruption personified government in the state
Omo’ba Adesanya however, urged parents and students to be law abiding, stressing that they must resist the tyrannical imposition of illegal levels against them.
