In relationships, many people fear being someone’s second choice. It is never pleasant to feel as though you are simply filling a gap until something better comes along. If your partner showers you with affection one day and disappears the next, it could be a sign of indecision. Genuine interest usually brings consistency. If their attention feels conditional, you may not be their priority.

People who see you as a backup often resist putting a label on the relationship. They may dodge conversations about commitment, future plans, or even simple labels such as boyfriend, girlfriend, or partner. This avoidance is usually because they want to keep their options open.

When someone is serious about you, they will naturally speak about the future with you in it. If you notice that their plans for holidays, career, or life events do not include you, it could mean they are not fully invested.
