If you can start the day without caffeine, If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it, If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time, If you can take criticism and blame without resentment, If you can conquer tension without medical help, If you can relax without alcohol, If you can sleep without the aid of drugs, Then You Are Probably The Family Dog! And you thought I was going to…
Who wrote the story? Unknown. Is the story true? Not sure. Where did this article originate. Unknown. However, it’s a . . . Great Story. THE ESSENTIAL FILIPINO Discovering Dreams A British journalist breezed into Manila with an assignment to write about ‘the essential Filipino. He smiled confidently over his easy assignment relishing the free tour as complementary reward. For three days, he ran around searching. He rejected the business district of Makati, which reminded him of cold and calculating London. He went to historical places in Intramuros but saw only a glimpse of the past not the present. Next…
By Ryan Hansen I work at a supermarket, and one day while passing by a magazine rack at a checkout, I saw, on one of the magazine covers, the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life. In fact, she was beyond beautiful, almost terribly so. Not a blemish could be found. She radiated sensuality and feminine perfection. She instantly captivated me. I was hypnotized in a love-drunk stupor. Her flawless skin shined like glass, her gratuitous curves more exhilarating than any roller coaster ride. She was a freak of beauty, the Frankenstein of supermodels. As she ran…
It was an unusually busy day for the hospital staff on the sixth floor. Ten new patients were admitted and Nurse Susan spent the morning and afternoon checking them in. Her friend Sharron, an aide, prepared ten rooms for the patients and made sure they were comfortable. After they were finished she grabbed Sharron and said, “We deserve a break. Let’s go eat.” Sitting across from each other in the noisy cafeteria, Susan noticed Sharron absently wiping the moisture off the outside of her glass with her thumbs. Her face reflected a weariness that came from more than just a…
‘Let It Be.’ These words remind us that we cannot control everything. There are some things, which just happen. We just have to tell ourselves to let it be. But it is hard to do that sometimes. Often, we find ourselves trying to take control of something in which we have no power over its outcome. We think we have the power and the know how to do everything as a result of our tendency to want to be in total control of our lives and have a say on how everything turns out in our lives. We develop our…
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4-19 Do you know that Jesus is all you need? St. Paul reminds us as he did the Church at Philippi, “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:19. No one else can supply our needs, except God. Are you in an abusive and unhealthy relationship because are convinced you cannot live without the abusive person? Are you living under the weight of depression because of the loss of a loved…
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. Psalm: 44:17-19 It Is Well with My Soul 1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. Refrain: It is well with my…
I consider a lack of humility a major character flaw. A number of individuals are pompous in general, always bragging about their wealth and achievements, always trying to show off and what not. What these individuals need is a large dose of humility in order to rid themselves of their obnoxious self importance. How do we get over being so about ourselves and our achievements? I recall something I read on humility by Mother Teresa, who by the way is now a Saint in the Catholic Church; and I share it here with you. These are the few ways we…
In this Sunday’s article, I want us to focus on Ephesians 6:10-18. Here St. Paul tells us that we should be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. He further urges us to put on the whole armour of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. The reason we need to put on God’s amour is so that we can withstand the devil and his wiles. We also need God’s amour because we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the…
