Award-winning writer & director Christopher M Anthony speaks exclusively to Pride Magazine Nigeria about his Lebanese-Nigerian heritage and his experiences as a first-time director working on “Heavyweight” with fellow Nigerian actor Osy Ikhile (“Black Mirror”), award-winning actor and producer Nicholas Pinnock (“Hedda”, “Fightland”) and lead actor Jordan Bolger (“The Woman King”, “This Town”).
As fight time approaches, “Heavyweight” explores the fragile mental state of a fighter and his cornermen backstage, where pressure, expectation, and doubt collide.
With the clock ticking, a series of internal and external obstacles cause the fighter to lose faith in himself. As his team works tirelessly to remind him that he deserves his place in the ring, Derek begins to understand that the greatest weight he carries isn’t physical.
To move forward, he must cut ties with the version of himself that’s holding him back – and face his most formidable opponent yet: himself.
