Dear Dorothy,There is this guy I work with in a big organisation. We have been flirting with each other for about nine months. We seem to like each other. I would very much like our relationship to go beyond the flirting into a serious one.
I have been hinting this to him but he seems not to have taken notice of my wish for us to become a pair. He had once confessed to me that he was very much in love with a lady who dropped him without hesitation to marry another man. Dorothy, do you think this is the reason that he does not want to get into a meaningful relationship with me?
Dorothy, I think I am falling for this guy. Please advise me on how to move this relationship forward.
My Dear,
One of life’s ironies with respect to relationships is that oftentimes, the person we fancy may not be looking at us in the same light.
What is clear from your communication is that the guy in question may like you, hence his flirtations, but that is as far as he wants it to go. You may have to tell yourself that this guy is clearly not that into you.
This may not be what you want to hear from me but I will have to advise you to let him be and don’t get into the emotional wasteland of unrequited love. He knows you want a relationship, yet it seems he is still pining over the girl who ditched him and married another person. Since it seems he doesn’t want to let go of the past and open himself to a new relationship with you, I will advise you to move on with your life and put your infatuation with this man behind you. Leave yourself open to forming a relationship with someone who will be interested in you and wants a meaningful relationship with you.
Good luck.
