… Continued from Chapter Eighteen.
“I don’t understand. You did not tell him that there’s no pregnancy?”
“Err I completely forgot to tell him with the excitement and all.”
“But I thought you said you guys were not that serious, so how come he is coming all the way?”
“Well, we were not officially dating or anything but we saw each very often.”
“Hmm. He must really like you.”
“He was saying a lot of nice things before this whole pregnancy episode; how it was a huge mistake on his part to have let me go.”
“Err, I don’t know babes but if you ask me, I think maybe you should tell him the truth about the pregnancy and clear the air.”
“That’s exactly what I intend to do when we meet up tomorrow but I need you to accompany me.”
“Ehn! For what? Don’t you guys need privacy?”
“Babe abeg, I would feel much more comfortable if you accompany me.” she pleaded
“You know I’d do anything for you Tee besides I need to meet this ‘London boy’ but I have to first be at my final session with doctor Obi tomorrow.”
“Your lovemaking session abi.” She said sarcastically.
“Get out! We’ll meet up afterwards. Goodnight mad girl.”
“Goodnight dear,” she whispered back as we hung up.
I woke up the next morning feeling like a queen, the taste of his kiss still lingered; it felt good to be wanted and I couldn’t wait to see him again. The final session breezed through. I could hardly concentrate; I spent half the time staring at his lips. But I was officially not his patient anymore and I think he was glad about that.
“I have something to tell you, Ebun.”
“Is everything okay?” I asked, concerned.
“Yes, everything is fine. I’m not sure how to say this but… I like you. I really really like you and since the first day you walked through my door, I’ve been unable to get you out of my head.”
Was I dreaming? Was this really happening?!
He gestures towards me and I could feel my heart leap for joy.
“I’m not sure I have felt like this about anyone else. I’m no longer your therapist and I want to make my intentions clear.”
Attempting to speak, he cuts me off.
“Hold on, Ebun. You don’t have to respond now. I need you to know that what I want from you is not a flimsy, barely-there relationship. It’s a serious commitment, so take your time to think about what you want. I’m a patient man; I’ll wait.”
The thought of Tola’s meeting interrupted my thought process. I knew I had to go since I’d made the commitment. Doctor Obi and I agreed to meet later in the day after work and I proceeded to meet with Tola.
I arrived at the address she had texted me and walked in through a lobby that led into a lounge, I immediately spotted Tola seated at the corner table and skittishly talking to a guy. I couldn’t see his face clearly because the lights were dim but the closer I got, the clearer…
“You’re late!” distracting my concentration, Tola charged towards me to offer her usual her koala bear hug.
“It’s a long story, I got into this…”
“Never mind, come, and let me introduce you.” She interrupted, took me by the hand as we walked towards their table.
“Ebun this is Sam, Sam this is Ebun my best friend.”
Suddenly all the air in the room was sucked out. I could barely breathe. I looked at his face again just to be sure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me; he reached out to shake my hands, but I was about to faint. It was him.
To be continued next week.
