Betrayal! Maybe that’s how to describe actress, Genevieve Nnaji’s remark on Amstel Malta non-alcoholic drink at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) which held weeks back. Genevieve who’s the brand ambassador for the acclaimed low sugar and non-alcoholic malt drink brewed by Nigerian breweries Plc released what can be likened to a bombshell which sends goose pimple and shivers to the body of onlookers at the awards ceremony. When called upon to present the award for Best Actor category which was won by OC Ukeje, the actress, whether mistakenly or otherwise, said to the audience, “Take Amstel Malta, get fat”. Her statement got to the audience as a surprise shock considering the campaign by the brewers that the drink contains ‘low sugar’.
Many are already asking questions as to if Genevieve’s statement was a revelations of the truth about Amstel Malta or simply a goof.
Meanwhile all efforts to speak to representatives of Nigerian Breweries Plc, which produces the drink under the license of Amstel Brouwerij B.V in the Netherlands, proved abortive as non of them were picking up their calls.
