The neck and shoulder are other delicate part of the skin that needs utmost care. You don’t want to be caught in an outfit that reveals your neck and shoulder like alter neck top and shows acne or other skin irritations. Every part of the body needs attention and the neck and shoulders are no exceptions.
Find below tips on how to take care of your neck and shoulders for a smooth skin:
- Shower after involvement in activities that bring sweat
Wear loose-fitting workout clothes made of cotton fabric during workouts/exercises. Wash the clothes immediately after use. Also, shower and change to new clothes after doing anything that causes sweat. An alternative is an oil-free cleansing wipe to gently wipe off sweaty skin if you can’t take a shower.
- Don’t scrub your neck and shoulders
Scrubbing skin with acne worsens the conditions. You should wash the back surface and apply acne treatment mildly.
- Use only gentle fragrance-free skin care products
Avoid antibacterial soaps, astringents, and abrasive scrubs. They worsen acne and other skin irritations on your neck and shoulders. Instead, use gentle, fragrance-free skin-care products for best results.
- Use oil-free skin products
Use only oil-free skin care products and cosmetics with packaging that may read “non-comedogenic,” “non-acnegenic,” “won’t clog pores,” or “oil-free.”
- Allow your neck and shoulders to breathe
Allow your back to breathe. Avoid anything that rubs against your back and can cause irritation making the back acne flare. Replace a backpack with a handheld bag. When you carry a purse on your shoulder, put the strap on your arm. Resist the temptation to pick or pop acne on your neck and shoulders as this makes the situation worse.
- Stay away from the sun rays
Protect your back skin from the sun’s rays as they tend to darken acne and cause it to last longer.
- Practise good hygiene
Wash your bed sheets and pillowcases regularly. Clean sheets and pillowcases are essential for clearing neck and shoulder acne. You may want to change pillowcases twice weekly because they harbour dead skin cells and bacteria. Whenever you wash sheets and pillowcases, to use ensure you use a fragrance-free detergent.
