The edges are those fine soft, wispy baby hairs that grow along the hairline. Due to their fragility, it is easy to break them and pull them out. This is why they require extra care whenever you wash, moisturise, deep condition and style your hair.
If you have lost your edges to protective styles, don’t fret, you can grow them again. Perhaps your edges are thinning out or severely damaged or they are healthy enough, the following tips would do wonders for your edges:
- Limit the use of extension or high maintenance hairstyles because they put so much pressure on your scalp. You should tell your hairstylist to leave out your edges if you have to use hair extensions.
- Use Satin or Silk headbands, bonnets and scarves. They would protect your edges from breaking. Any other fabric absorb oils and moisture from your hair, making it dry and prone to breakage. when you tie a scarf, start from your forehead instead of directly on your edges, to avoid friction.
- Keep your edges moisturized with natural oils. Massage well to stimulate blood circulation which promotes growth.
- Deep condition to strengthen your edges as well as other parts of your hair.
- Your hair and edges would be strengthened when you eat the right foods. Vitamins are rich nutrients to aid hair growth.
- Use less heat often on your hair. The edges are fragile and would require less heat. Give your heat tools a break.
- Lastly, stop touching your edges. Be patient and give them time to grow.
