These set of people known as the naturalista, are staying true to their identity and rich heritage of the natural thick afro linked to the black race. This may seem easier to maintain but just like permed hair, it requires full attention and care.
If you just started on the natural hair journey, here are tips to follow for best hair results
- Moisturise your hair
For long hair growth, it is important you always keep your natural hair moisturised with conditioners. Everytime you wash your hair, it is likely to get dry and brittle. Applying conditioners to your hair tips and leaving for 2-3 minutes before washing off would keep your hair soft and long. Use a deep conditioner every 2-3 weeks and follow the instructions on the package.
- Apply hair oils regularly
Natural hair needs lots of oil. Ensure you infuse oiling your hair into your everyday routine. Hair oils play a vital role to ensure the hair stays healthy and strong. Hair oils like Avocado oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil, Almond oil, Jojoba oil, Castor oil are good for the natural hair.
- Trim hair
Once in a while , trim your hair. Even though the goal is to have long hair, when you trim split ends, it speeds up the natural hair growth process. At least trip hair every 2 to 3 months to keep hair in good shape.
- Protect hair ends
One part of the hair that gets damaged quickly are the hair tips because of their fragility. They get the least amount of oils. Don’t leave your hair loose always so that it is not exposed injuries. Tie your hair with hairpin or use the same hair bands.
- Always sleep with a satin bonnet or pillowcase.
A satin bonnet keeps the hair from tangles or breakage while sleeping. If you sleep with loose hair on a cotton pillowcase, it would lead to dry hair and hair loss because of contact with cotton. A satin bonnet or pillowcase is gentle on the hair allowing it to maintain moisture.
- Don’t apply heat to your natural hair
The natural hair cannot withstand heat. Hair driers and straighteners should be avoided except when necessary. Whenever you want to dry your natural hair, don’t use hairdryer instead air-dry it. This protects your natural hair excessive breakage.
