In a recent interview, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, revealed that she is 43% Nigerian. According to the UK Mirror, she announced this in the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes, which aired on Tuesday.
She expressed a strong desire to learn more about her ancestors.
“I just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago,” she said while speaking with American actress, Issa Rae, Nigerian-American writer, Ziwe Fumudoh, and professor Emily Bernards.
When her guests asked what the results meant, the Duchess replied, “I’m 43% Nigerian,” which shocked Ziwe, who exclaimed, “No way!”
“Are you serious?” Ziwe inquired. This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?
She responded,
I’m going to start to dig deeper into all of this because anyone that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like, what?
