An amorous 65-year-old Ghanaian has fathered his great grandchild with his daughter’s 15-year-old daughter.
The crime of Emmanuel Oko Lartey was reported to the police by his son-in-law.
Lartey, a businessman lived in the same vicinity as his granddaughter who often ran errands for which he compensated her with some pocket money.
Tempted somewhere along the line and unable to control himself, Lartey took advantage of his granddaughter and had sex with her on two occasions, getting her pregnant at Korle Gonno, an Accra suburb.
When Lartey realize that what he did in the dark in 2013 was showing for all to see he hid the victim, at an unknown place, possibly spiriting her out of Accra. He only brought her back three weeks after she had delivered.
Though Lartey pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of defilement and incest, Justice Sedina Agbemava found him guilty after a full trial and sentenced him to 10years for defilement and 15 years for incest. Both sentences are running concurrently so Lartey will serve on 15 years and not 25.
Prosecuting ASP Sarah Acquah said the victim’s father was the complainant in the matter and that the kid mum, now 16, stays at Korle Gonno in Accra, the same area as the victim to whom he is the maternal grandfather.
During the year 2013, the victim used to run errands for the convict so she also took money from him for her upkeep.
Prosecution said Lartey took advantage of the victim and had sex with her on two occasions. The victim got pregnant but her parents only realized it when the pregnancy was 32 weeks old.
ASP Acquah said when Lartey realized that the victim was pregnant; he took the victim to an undisclosed place until she delivered three weeks later.
The matter was reported to the police and Lartey was arrested.
