Today, 11th October 2018, being Throwback Thursday, we reminisce on an article written in 2014 by our then Contributing Editor, now Editor-in-Chief, Adaudo Anyiam-Osigwe. We adopt it as our editorial for today, as we mark the International Day of the Girl Child.
We draw focus on the issues raised in her Opinion Piece: “#BringBackOurGirls: If The Girls Return, What Will Become Of Them?”

These issues are still as relevant today as they were in May 2014 when it was first published. We, as a society, must rise above hostility and ignorance; the girl child must be treated with the care, dignity and the respect she deserves. Anything short of this is unacceptable and retrogressive. Nigeria can only join the caucus of developed nations if the girl child is given the opportunity to expand her mind through education in an environment that fosters and grooms her talents.
