My dear daughter,
It is often said that we are a sum of all our memories. if this is the case, don’t you think you should invest your time enjoying every moment you’re alive; focusing on what’s important like spending time with your loved ones, being affectionate, learning to laugh, showing appreciation, growing plants, experimenting with new recipes, hanging out with friends, savouring the taste of a cup of tea… it’s an unending list of feel-good activities.
You often tease me about my inclination to quote from Max Ehrmann’s Desiderata in some of my letters to you, well, my dear, this is because I find a few of his sentiments relevant to what I oftentimes want to convey to you. So here I go again: “Whether or not it is clear to you, (there’s) no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.” And although it seems like the world is in a cesspool of chaotic events; with a myriad of “sham, drudgery and broken dreams…” the universe is really unfolding, as it should.
I’m sure from experience you’ve noticed that times get tough and life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows; sad things do happen, but life always goes on. And despite all the rocks scattered along your path, “it is still a beautiful world” and the journey, a wonderful one.
So, my dear, “Be careful. Strive to be happy,” because by enjoying each moment, you’re truly living. Also remember that yesterday is gone and tomorrow is out of sight, so live each day at a time ensuring you appreciate every moment.
Love you always,
Dad
