Liverpool player, Taiwo Awoniyi is set to make his Super Eagles debut. Even though the 22-year-old plays on loan for Bundesliga club Mainz, he has never been invited to the Super Eagles after five years of playing in Europe.
According to him, he is excited and dreams of finally of finally putting on a Super Eagles shirt. He told Tribalfootball:
“I think it is every player’s dream to play for his national team,”
“But still you can’t control it and Nigeria is blessed with the abundance of football talents everywhere.
“You just have to keep your hope alive, keep working hard and believe that with God all things are possible.”
From all indications, the forward player has never spoken with Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr but he is thrilled to making the squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). In his interview, he also added:
“That’s why I’m a football player and have represented my country in all age grades national teams from the U17 to U23 teams,”
“It is good for me to be working hard towards meeting that target.”
Taiwo Awoniyi joined Liverpool in August 2015 and has been on loan six times . He is yet to get his work permit in England. This season, he has made 12 appearances for Mainz in the premier league and scored just once.
