Our Man Crush Monday, Dr Oluwaseun Ajayi holds a PhD in Real Estate (Investment and Finance) from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He also earned his MSc and BSc in Estate Management, both with distinctions in several modules, from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. With over a decade of teaching experience across Nigeria, South Africa, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Oluwaseun has taught at prestigious institutions including Oxford Brookes University, where he served as Senior Lecturer and Module Leader for Property Valuation and Property Management, and currently, at London Metropolitan University as Programme Lead/Head of Department, Real Estate.
Oluwaseun’s PhD research focused on the performance of listed Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) in South Africa, examining the impacts of Black Economic Empowerment, Earnings Management, and the influence of Female Directors and their Level of Education. His research has been presented at international conferences across Africa, North America, and Europe, and published in esteemed journals such as Property Investment and Finance (JPIF). He has recently examined PhDs, and supervised several MSc and BSc theses at various universities in Africa. He has received the BEST PAPER AWARD twice at the annual African Real Estate Society Conference and was honored with the BEST LECTURER award at Obafemi Awolowo University. At the London Metropolitan University, he was shortlisted from 428 nominations as an Outstanding Academic Member of Staff in 2024 within 4 months of joining the university; what a feat!.
Beyond academia, Oluwaseun has significantly contributed to capacity development, coaching over 50,000 scholarship and job applicants with an impressive 87% success rate over the past decade. He is a serial grants and scholarships winner, having secured over $1,000,000 in funding from esteemed institutions such as DAAD (Germany), International Real Estate Business School (IREBS), Germany, Wits Business School, South Africa, Wits University Annual Award, South Africa, and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Nigeria. Notable awards include the 2019 DAAD Research Grant, 2021 IREBS Doctoral Completion Scholarship, 2022 James Webb Doctoral Research Grant, and 2023 MRE Seller Conference Research Grant.
Oluwaseun is a frequent political and economic analyst on television, providing insights on nation-building and responsible governance. His interests include Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, Sustainability, ESG, Artificial Intelligence, Responsible Real Estate Investments, and Climate Change Financing. He is proficient in statistical modelling and data analysis using tools such as Stata, SPSS, and Microsoft digital packages. Oluwaseun is passionate about enhancing teaching pedagogy that promotes equality among his students and mentees. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing golf, reading, writing, mentoring, and watching soccer.
