Attaining work-life balance appears to a mission impossible with several tasks contending for one’s time and energy. The high unemployment rate has increased the fear of being fired. More than ever employees do extra work hours at the expense of other activities. Work-life balance is not the same for every individual but it surely means to excel in both work and personal life. Career experts have given tips on how to achieve this with the following:
1.Unplug from perfectionism
We may tend to do everything perfectly but that could be draining and lead to burn-out. Not only is perfectionism not good for the health, but it is a stressful way of living. We are not encouraging mediocrity, but always working or pushing for perfection is surely not the way to go if you want to live a balanced life in all spheres. Have you noticed that the more you want to get things perfectly done, there is another thing that needs to be done?
2. Exercise and meditate
This is good for the body, mind and soul. No matter how busy we are, we take time to eat and refill our bodies. We use the bathroom and do other things for our benefit. Exercising and meditating should not be left out, it should be a deliberate effort on the path of the worker.
3. Use your time judiciously
This implies cutting off from people that are not helpful aka timewasters. The more you are invested in them, the more they waste your time that could be used productively. You would also cut off from all forms of distractions e.g social media. You would limit how you use social media. It has been known to adverse effects on worker’s productivity.
4. Change the structure of your life
Don’t try to do it all and alone, instead focus on activities you specialize in and value most. Delegate or outsource everything else. Delegating can be a win-win situation. As earlier stated, you have to deliberate about your lifestyle. Practise good time management and you would not be stressed out.
5. Start from where you are
The saying ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a small step’. You don’t have to begin with a big leap. Be calculative and intentional with the small steps you are taking in your career paths. Do well to appreciate every step and the progress thus far. You don’t need to start big, with what you are and where you are you can still make significant career moves.
