Nowadays, some people are leaving their 9-5 jobs to go into entrepreneurship full-time. The number of successful people in business is also commensurate with millions of people who have failed in business. Entrepreneurship is one sure way to build wealth in the economy, however, not everyone is cut out for it. It is not as easy as it appears, it takes a lot of grit and resilience. Are you thinking of delving into entrepreneurship? Here are 7 warning signs it is not for you:
1. You don’t take risks
To get ahead in life, you must be a risk-taker. If you don’t take risks but rest in your comfort zone, you have no business going to entrepreneurship. When in business, one moment you are high, and the next moment you are low. You need to take a lot of risks as an entrepreneur to generate steady cash flow to stiff competition at different points in time.
2. You don’t like to take the lead
Every entrepreneur is known to exhibit great leadership skills. This is because they are faced with decision-making and the strategy to grow their business. Most times, entrepreneurs set goals and take the lead to work independently. Thus, if you are cool with being a follower, you should not go into entrepreneurship.
3. You hate working alone
The path of entrepreneurship is most times lonely. As an entrepreneur, you are not entitled to the perks that come with an office environment or working in a team. You should be comfortable working alone or else you would fall into depression. If you are a people person, it is best you stick to your 9-5 job.
4. You constantly need motivation
You need to have a deep drive and a healthy dose of motivation as an entrepreneur, Nobody would be there to give it to you. So the success of your business lies in your hands. Unlike the corporate environment, in entrepreneurship, there are no colleagues or managers to motivate you to work from time to time. You need to develop the stamina and willpower to take your business to higher levels.
5. You want quick money
Don’t get it twisted like most people, entrepreneurship is not the fastest way to make quick cash. Entrepreneurship is not a journey but a destination. Truth is, there is no regular income with entrepreneurship. A 9-5 job would get you paid at the end of every month but not entrepreneurship. It may take a while sometimes years before you get your first big break as an entrepreneur and you may have to prepare for many dry seasons.
6. You are not willing to work the work
Many entrepreneurs end up becoming Jacks of all trades and masters of none. If you are not willing to get your hands dirty, you might need to reconsider moving to entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneur, you will be wearing many hats all at once e.g accountant, writer, salesperson, project manager, etc. This is okay because you are indirectly honing your skills in different areas.
7. You can’t work under pressure
As an entrepreneur, be prepared for the sleepless nights, the inconsistent income, angry clients, and the carefree employees all bound to put pressure on you. Running a business can be an overwhelming and unending circle of problems. You need to develop a thick skin for pressure and stress as an entrepreneur.
It can get so bad that you may slip into depression if you feel nobody is there to cheer you on when you succeed and stand by you when you are down.
