The average worker spends about 90,000 hours working in his/her lifetime, according to the book Happiness at Work. So it is necessary to make the workplace accommodating and interesting. This can be achieved by incorporating a good work habits that help you stay more productive and engaged daily.
If you would like to switch up your routines, boost your mood and be more productive, the following tips would be helpful:
1.Begin the day with something you love
Spend the first 5 minutes of each day doing something you love. It could be meditation, exercise, drinking coffee or reading. It could even be writing a gratitude list- write down your good experiences. This would put your day in a good headstart.
2. Focus
You have to shut all forms of distractions. This may be in form of social media. Unless important, choose a particular time of the day to check unimportant emails and other notifications.
3. Do the dreaded tasks first
It is not unusual to want to do the dreaded task lastly but it better to do the dreaded tasks before other minimal tasks first.
4. Get along with your co-workers
Research shows that people stay in a company longer when they have friends there. As much as you are in the workplace to do your job, try getting along with your coworkers. A greeting or invitation for lunch would not be out of place.
5. Don’t assume
In the workplace, there is no room for assumptions. Ensure you clarify all work-related activities. Never misread tone in an email or comments. Don’t take things personal. Ask questions if you don’t understand.
6. Move around
Sometimes, one can get stuck at his/her desk but it is good to take short walk occasionally. Not only does it keep you energetic but also makes you focused and productive.
7. Declutter your workspace
This makes you feel more in control and in charge. A busy desk can be distracting and provoke stress.
8. Be open
It is not enough to do only job description. Try to do more. If there is a team member that needs extra hand, be willing to offer help and services.
