There is more to self-care as easy as it sounds. Self-care should be a priority for everybody because you can’t give what you don’t have. To indulge in self-care, you should do the following:
1. Stay active
Through exercising, you increase the endorphins in your brain. Set realistic goals daily. Go for yoga a few times a week, running, walking, biking, or just something that makes you happy. Do what you enjoy, so you can commit to it regularly.
2. Nourish your body
Eating a well-balanced diet does not nourish your body alone but also your mind. It is time to do away with the fries and focus on the greens, fruits and veggies.
3. Take a break
We live in a fast-paced world, it is very easy to be caught up in your many activities that you barely have time for yourself. Your body and mind both need time to refresh so take breaks occasionally.
4. Socialise
Socialisation has been made easy with digitalisation. You don’t have to be physically present to meet another person. You can schedule a FaceTime or do a voice note or send a message or even host a virtual dinner party. Remember, you can never be too busy for people like your friends and family who love you and ease your stress level.
5. Sleep
Sleep deprivation can leave you feeling irritable and exhausted in the short run. In the long run, it can lead to weight gain and serious health issues. Your brain and body need time to rest. Aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep daily.
6. Drink water
Stay hydrated always. Dehydration gives way to constipation, dizziness, confusion and low blood pressure.
