Project-“Fight it”, a pivotal event is aimed at addressing depression and suicide among adults in Nigeria. This initiative seeks to provide critical support, raise awareness, and ensure that the people within our community have every advantage necessary to excel as productive members of the society. Fight It, is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Developmental Goal 3- Good health and well-being, and it is also an approach to human capital development.
Depression and suicide are critical issues affecting many Nigerians, which are often shrouded in stigma and misunderstanding. “Fight It”; aims to raise awareness, offer support, and spread a message of hope.
This project will bring together professionals, advocates, and the community to foster understanding and resilience. “Fight It” is designed to raise awareness about the realities of depression and suicide, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations among individuals; through inspiring talks, personal stories, and interactive sessions, we hope to provide valuable insights and resources for those affected by these issues, spreading a message of hope and resilience.

OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT ‘FIGHT IT’:
1. Raise Awareness: Provide insights into the signs, symptoms, and impacts of depression and suicide from an adult perspective.
Expected Outcome: Enhanced understanding of mental health issues relevant to adults.
2. Reduce Stigma: Promote open discussions and sharing of personal experiences to address stigma and encourage empathy.
Expected Outcome: Increased willingness among adults to discuss and seek help for mental health issues.
3. Offer Support: Deliver practical resources and counselling tailored to adult needs.
Expected Outcome: Improved access to support services and coping strategies for adults.
4. Spread Hope: Share messages of hope and resilience through content that resonates with adult experiences.
Expected Outcome: Greater motivation and support for adults facing mental health challenges.
KEY COMPONENTS:
1. Lectures:
○ Mental health professionals and advocates will share insights and experiences.
○ Topics will include understanding depression, recognizing warning signs of suicide, and prevention strategies.
2. Counselling Sessions:
○ One-on-one counselling with trained professionals available for attendees.
○ Provide a safe space for individuals to discuss personal concerns and Receive guidance.
3. Comedy Acts:
○ Performances by comedians to bring laughter and a sense of community. ○ Highlight the importance of humour and joy in mental health.
4. Music Performances:
○ Uplifting musical acts to inspire and soothe the soul.
○ Performances by local artists who advocate for mental health awareness.
5. Drama:
○ Powerful drama performances depicting real-life stories and struggles With mental health.
○ Encourage empathy and understanding through storytelling.
6. Workshops:
○ Interactive sessions focused on coping strategies, self-care, and building resilience.
○ Led by mental health professionals and experienced facilitators.
