More often than not good people stay by the sideline and permit evil to triumph. These ordinary citizens claim to be religiously or spiritually conscious and concerned about the well being of their fellow men, yet for whatever reasons, make no attempt to fight or raise their voice against injustices befalling others. Looking the other way, and accepting wrongdoings and injustice makes one a silent participant. By conceding, they may be propagating the widespread flagrant displays of injustices by self-serving entities that hurt all of us, as the perpetrators of these injustices may have hidden agendas not intended for the best interest of the society.
There exists a feeling of hopelessness when we do not confront injustices. A lot of individuals think that attempting to intervene in these issues can bring unwanted retaliation by opposing forces; thus many are not willing to take the chance of being victimized. There are also those who complain tirelessly to all who care to listen, but resign themselves to the situation as they state that this is simply the way it is and there’s little that can be done to improve the end result.
Paying attention to the word of God, but neglecting to be active participants in its implementation is exactly what a lot of us are doing. Passively watching rather than fighting injustices is a sin. Living out our spirituality involves helping those less fortunate, taking a stand against injustices, and standing up for what is morally right. Spirituality to have true meaning requires social action.
Social action implies doing everything possible to eradicate pain, suffering and injustice in this world, regardless of the consequences that you could experience. It really is social action that allows your light shine when everywhere seems dark, gloomy, or hopeless. Collectively, we could save ourselves along with our friends and family by simply doing precisely what is right, which in turn involves fighting and speaking out against injustices occurring around us.
Religious organisations should encourage their members not only to be active within, but beyond their religious communities. Individuals that make up these entities should not pigeonhole themselves, but encouraged to form broad and corporative arrangements with other (secular) institutions to deal with and fight social ills
This is the time to take a stance and make a difference, personally becoming involved with fighting injustices occurring around you. Become involved. Make a positive difference.
