I received a new book, In The Name Of Our Father and was immediately intrigued by the title and the cover.
The novel contains the story of a false prophet and what a journalist goes through whilst exposing the story.
“A mesmerising tale of duty, ambition, greed and hunger for power. It is the story of two men intent on preserving their lives but it is on a larger scale the story of a country fighting to throw off the shackles of power mad dictator”
– Toni Kan, poet and novelist
Speaking with the author Olukorede S. Yishau, who expresses in the pre-prologue that it took him 16 years to publish the book I had a few questions.
CAO: What would you say are the key themes in the book?
CAO: What took you so long to publish it?
OSY: It took so long because I wanted to be sure it was good enough for release so I kept passing it around people who could tell me the truth.
CAO: What message do you want the reader to take away from the book?
OSY: The message for readers to take away is that God gave us brains to think and make things happen instead of subletting our lives to men of God.
CAO: Could there be a part 2?
OSY: Yes, there is a sequel about the aspect regarding the journalist in the book. It is being edited at the moment.
CAO: What things did you leave out of the story?
OSY: I really can’t say anything was left out but I remember I had to remove about 4,000 words based on the advice of Toni Kan who edited the book.
In my opinion, the novel is a wonderfully told tale of a nation in crisis and the lengths people will go to to further their own means. A fantastic first time novel about spiritual warfare, humanity and the search for self.
