Her eyes dazzled suspiciously inside the indistinct bedroom light, revealing only the sweetest part of her; her sharp bright eyes and succulent glossy lips. She slowly slumped to the bed with her head perfectly resting on her folded arms, revealing her hips even more clearly as I took a good look, from the other end of the bed.
The next half hour, I couldn’t but fantasize about being with her for the rest of my life.
She’s crazy, no doubt. She’s sexy, the part I like the most. She has a ‘basket mouth’, which I’m totally cool with, too! And most importantly, she’s realistically ambitious. Tell me what I’d rather do than put a ring on that finger.
Sophie has gone beyond being my best friend; she’s my sister, my confidant and sometimes, my mother. She doesn’t like that I call her that, but truth is, she ‘mother’s’ me a lot more, these days, than my biological mum :).
Maybe it’s because we practically grew up like a family, and having known each other this long, we’ve been through stuff together. So thinking in the direction of dating her would look like wanting to date my sister.
Time quickly went past as we stayed talking all evening.
It was exactly ten past ten when we both heard a sharp knock on the door. It was rather unusual so I quickly rushed to lock the door but it was too late; 3 masked hefty guys and a masculine lady were already in my sitting room when I got out of the room.
To state the obvious, I was more than petrified.
I wished my soul could communicate to Sophie to lock herself in my wardrobe but before I made any move, she ran towards me, grabbing me from behind so closely you’d think she wants to enter my skin.
With guns pointed at us and screams of “bring that money you collected this evening”, we practically froze into each other.
This would be my first experience with robbery so I practically didn’t know what to say.
I tried to utter a word, but nothing came forth, not until I got slightly tapped with the head of the gun… “It was a check Sir! They gave me a check of 750k” I muttered, shaking heavily as I thought my head was being blown away.
They dragged us to my room, searching everywhere to confirm I was saying the truth.
“Oboy, this dude na maga o. Omo, nothing dey here walai!” one of them angrily uttered. The other came closer, pulled Sophie from my back and dangled his gun around her boobs.
Oh God! Please don’t let this happen, I silently prayed.
Before I finished my prayer, he pushed her to the bed with his gun, giving her direction. I felt every emotion she felt as this wasn’t the first time she’s been in this position.
“Don’t do that to her please!” I yelled out. The next thing I felt was a shot on my right arm. My head immediately went blank, my vision blurry and all I could feel was not just the hurt from the bullet in my right arm but Sophie’s pain and screams as I heard her skirt being torn.
I fell to the floor and that was the last thing I remembered.
As the second hand ticked on 12, my eyes flipped open. It was 3.22am at Gerard Hospital, Ikoyi. Neil quickly grabbed me as though he’d waited for me to open those eyes a long time.
“Where is Sophie?” was the first thing out of my mouth.
Neil gazed at my eyes in tears and sobbed heavily.
