Dear Diary
What if he finds out? Yes! He finds out that I have been lying all this while. And I am not what I claimed to be? The working class lady who drives a posh car? The expensive house? The expensive clothes? The expensive phone? The bone straight hair? Everything was just ‘packaging’ and ‘borrow posing’, they were not hers…. How long would I keep up with the pretences???
Sharon met Joshua at a high flying event two weeks ago. The callibre of people that attended that event was top notch. From bank MDs, CEOS , Business leaders, Diplomats and the likes. She was on one mission on the day of the event, get a business partner. All things being equal, she did notonly get that, she also got a ‘toaster’. For her that was a great thing. They struck a conversation based on mutual interest and exchanged contacts from there.
Single to stupour, she had been driven back to the ‘I am available’ market after Ron mercilessly broke her heart. She was happy with the new found freedom. It was like tight band had been released from her wrist. That guy had a lot of insecurities. He had not come to terms with their relationship from the onset.
He was still tied to his ex. It was Bukkie this, Bukkie that. Everything she did made him compare her with Bukkie. Thankfully, it was becoming unbearable and he just backed out just like that. No more commitments, no more attention, Ron pulled away and broke all means of communications with Sharon. It didn’t take her long to understand that he ‘did not want to do again”.
Back to Joshua, he was more refined and collected. He was well-spoken and well-dressed like the well-bred top flying technocrat executive of a software company that he was. Sharon was happy that he found her attractive to want to date her. She had put her best foot forward at their first meeting only that most of the things on her body weren’t hers.
The ombre bone straight wig was her roomie, Demilade’s. The black dress that brought out her curvaceous figure was a neighbour’s. The same neighbor that she had helped write a job online interview and passed. That was a way of payback. The make up on Sharon’s face was done by the saloon by the street on credit. Then the shoes on her feet she had spent a week learning to work with was her favourite cousin’s.
Since she had built that kind of persona for Joshua, she had to maintain it. For the past two weeks, they had been ‘dating’ she had been putting up appearances and social media had been helpful in that regard. How would she bail herself out? He was getting ready to pay her visit soon!
