This morning, I woke up to the news that Harry and Meghan (Duke and Duchess of Sussex) have decided to resign from their jobs as seniors within the Royal Family and become financially independent individuals. The comment section of this official post made on Instagram is filled with disdainful words from people who believe their opinions somehow matter or count.
For those who know the strict rules within the Royal walls, this step seems to be moving against the grain of what is expected of them as a Royal couple. This news which comes months after Meghan granted an interview in which she divulged how hard it’s been being a Royal mom within the line of fire of the British media proves one thing: before they are Royals, they are first, human.
At the beginning of the year, a good number of celebrities took to Instagram to share a recap of the previous year through pictures and one thing stuck out for me: without the fame, these are regular people who have regular lives and emotions.
So why do we forget this?
It is often said that, in part, social media is a cesspool of unforgiving trolls and I happen to side with this description. People say hurtful things to celebrities with the excuse that their lives are for public scrutiny, but why should any one’s life be any of our business and even when it is (our business), why should we choose to spread hate rather than love?
I genuinely seek to know what fuels people’s choices to say hurtful things.
