Today, in our usual attempt at a Throwback Thursday post, we’ve embraced our narcissistic side and dug through our past magazine issues to find one of our favourites – The Sunshine Issue. This featured the Nigerian music scene superstar, Seyi Shay, as the cover girl. Seyi who graces the cover in an unbuttoned white shirt with just the right amount of skin peeking through and a sailor’s hat – to remind us all that she’s the captain of her own ship – had a lot more than just her beauty secrets to share.
Taking you down memory lane – if you purchased the copy (and if you didn’t, just pretend you know what we’re talking about) – we’re highlighting 3 reasons it outranks others.

Seyi Shay Graced The Cover (duh)
Now while the street has taken over in terms of sound preference, and inexperienced starters are storming the industry and being rewarded with a loyal cult following, Seyi captured (and still captures) our eardrums with her Afropop and Dancehall sounds.

Natural Hair Inspiration
Okay, natural hair is far from being a fad because it grows out of our hair naturally, however, there was a not-too-long-ago moment when it was the rave, stealing the spotlight to become a new but temporal beauty staple (and eventually transitioning into a neo-Nazi movement because anyone who reverts to the allure of a relaxer is labelled a traitor and fed to online trolls). We fed every curl and coil cravings to satisfaction with the Pride Salon section.

Entrepreneur Wisdom
Rightfully, they say experience is the best teacher but it doesn’t specify whose. Faced with this fact, we decided to share the story of Ezinne Chinkata, a Nigerian fashion industry veteran who although started out as a stylist, has grown into an image consultant with a store – Zinkata – that stocks African – majorly Nigeria – brands. Also, we had a chat with Oke Maduewesi, the founder of Zaron cosmetics, one of the leading makeup brands in Nigeria, who gave life lessons to last a lifetime.
Oh, as an added bonus, guess who made it as our eye-candy? Tonye Garrick!
Although the production of our bi-monthly magazine issues has been put on a long hold, next year we’ll be releasing four very special issues that touch major facets of interest and we’re sure you’ll love it.
