It is the most wonderful time of the year- Christmas season. This is a period we always look forward to because of the many activities and the time well spent with family.
As children, we had agelong Christmas traditions but now that we are adults, a lot has changed. Let’s dive into some Christmas traditions that have changed as we now grown-ups:
1. No more chicken
Christmas and chickens go together. There is hardly any Christmas party or get-together without a serving of chicken. Some families have improvised and gone for other alternatives but chickens remain constant. No wonder the price of fowls goes up because of the demand. As adults, chickens do not really matter, you have other things competing for your pockets and chicken is the least on your mind.
2. Christmas clothes and shoes
Christmas celebration meant new clothes and shoes. As adults, you are more concerned about other pressing needs like getting fuel for your generators/car, house rent, sending money to family etc that buying Christmas clothes and shoes is the least of your worries.
3. Christmas hair
This is the period that saloons are busy with customers, especially children who are doing ‘Christmas hair’. As an adult, this does not matter to you anymore. All you have to do is show up and look good, you don’t have to break the bank to do special Christmas hair.
4. Going to the village
It was a Christmas tradition to travel to the village to celebrate with extended family. The house was filled with family members. As an adult, this is no longer a priority. In fact, your Christmas holidays are now mostly spent alone, chilling and scrolling through couple’s posts in matching pyjama sets.
5. Giving our Christmas money
The tables have turned. Before you were at the receiving end getting money from people. Now that you are an adult, you are expected to give out money. Family and friends would be looking up to you for both money and Christmas gifts.
